As a result of the mass detonation of nuclear weapons, hundreds of millions lost their lives in an instant, but this was just the beginning of the real catastrophe. The massive explosions released large amounts of smoke and soot into the atmosphere. The world was covered in radioactive ash. For a long, long period, the sun was obscured by thick, black clouds and it brought on the nuclear winter: an age of darkness and devastating cold. The combination of dim light, frost, and high levels of radiation caused severe damages to wildlife and led to the destruction of industrial, health care, and transportation infrastructure. It resulted in starvation and epidemics, causing mass mortality of populations. Human civilization slowly disappeared from the face of the earth. But there were survivors. People, organized into small groups, are currently searching for the essentials necessary for survival amid the smoky ruins of cities. During their forays, the survivors stumble upon an interesting place one day: a relatively well-preserved shelter equipped with clean water, beds, food, and strange objects. It looks like they've hit the jackpot and lucked out today! Or perhaps not...?
